Immunization

The involvement of GDS staff in immunization initially focused on program implementation, notably service quality. Examples:

- in Indonesia a large improvement in sterile technique was achieved in public health facilities and posts;

- in Cambodia our staff contributed to improvements in waste management, including sharps disposal; and

- in Mozambique, GDS conducted an assessment that led to improvements in the cold chain.

More recently GDS has conducted holistic assessments of immunization programs. In contrast with the above examples, the projects referenced here sought to improve coverage as well as service quality. These assessments opened with a thorough diagnostic of the program that led to costed strategies for improvement. For brief descriptions, see Urban Immunization Strategy for Afghanistan and Improvement Plan for Urban Immunization in Djibouti.
